Surgical Holdings nominated for ABHI recognising excellence in HealthTech award
Surgical Holdings is thrilled to announce that we’ve been nominated for the ABHI’s “Innovation in HealthTech: Recognising Excellence” campaign, recognising our work in delivering an integrated circular economy solution.
At Surgical Holdings, we are dedicated to helping hospitals cut their carbon footprint by actively promoting the repair and refurbishment of surgical instruments and other medical devices to tackle global steel wastage, in line with our circular economy approach. (Research shows that it requires 50% less energy to refurbish a surgical instrument than to replace it!)
We repair over 14,500 medical devices per year along with rigid endoscopes at our established factory in Southend-on-Sea, along with air tools, electric handpieces, and laparoscopic and electrosurgery devices. All repairs are carried out in-house to strict quality standards – and our technicians are trained through an internal apprenticeship programme to manufacture instruments rather than simply repair them.
We have also developed a range of high-quality reusable instruments, incorporating our exclusive Duo Surface Finish, designed for longevity in performance and corrosion resistance, and which are serviced in-house by our team of experienced and specialist technicians. In addition, independent testing has proven Surgical Holdings Reusable Scissors to not lose sharpness after 5000 usage cycles.
Dan Coole, Managing Director of Surgical Holdings, said: “At Surgical Holdings, we will continue to strive for excellence in everything we do and remain committed to developing innovative solutions that improve the lives of patients and surgeons alike. We are honoured to have been nominated for the ‘Innovation in Healthtech’ award by ABHI, a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team and the impact that our circular economy approach can have on the healthcare industry, in line with the aims of the NHS as it sets its sights on net zero. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the ABHI team for this nomination,, and to congratulate our fellow nominees!”
In the UK, medical equipment contributes 10% of the NHS carbon footprint. As the NHS sets its sights on net zero, here at Surgical Holdings, we are dedicated to helping to actively promote recycling, reselling, repurposing, repair, refurbishment, and remanufacturing of stainless-steel products.
We are able to offer a complete refurbishment service at a fraction of the price of new instrumentation, offering hospitals a managed system where every instrument on every tray they wish to replace can instead be refurbished and returned in an ‘as new’ condition, which offers a huge cost saving – of up to 80% compared to buying new instruments.
The ABHI’s HealthTech: Recognising Excellence & Innovation campaign is aimed at recognising and celebrating excellence in HealthTech innovation across the country. It provides the opportunity for individuals and organisations to be recognised for their efforts in driving improvements through innovation in partnership, and therefore, better outcomes for patients and the NHS.
