GS1 Laser Marking on Surgical Instruments
GS1 Laser Marking on Surgical Instruments
GS1 laser marking has become very relevant in the past year, with high-risk trays such as neurology needing to be tracked. So, if necessary, steels can be traced back to their source. GS1 marking is the standard the department of health has proposed to go ahead with and this presents itself in the form of a 2D matrix mark, as shown below.
Gs1 is a standards body that set standards, using unique numbers, for global use which makes the reliable identification of products and assets possible. They are a not-for-profit organisation working to make UK organisations more efficient by getting everybody speaking the same language when it comes to locating, transporting and trading goods.
The below reads as 8004 50552334 000001
For the number itself, the number is unique and any company that marks with Gs1 codes themselves will have a unique identifier in the coding. In addition to this, there is a sequential number, which is individual to that particular instrument.
